Perhaps you are excited about new personal goals as you hit the reset button and begin on a fresh note. Or perhaps you are low in spirit because new opportunities are not on the horizon.
Perhaps your health is frail, and you are apprehensive about the future. Or perhaps you face financial challenges in 2019 because changing circumstances are shaping your new year.
Among the different emotions we may experience, there is one thing that needs to be alive in our heart and if it is there, we can face whatever this new year may bring.
I am talking about HOPE.
Everyone needs hope. Hope has the power to sustain us through the inevitable change life deals to us. We know from experience each new year holds unforeseen changes we did not anticipate. We need a lasting hope to face the unfolding challenges sure to come in 2019.
But where is such hope to be found? King David the sweet psalmist of Israel shows us the answer in the following words: “For in thee, O Lord, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God . . . And now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee . . . For thou art my hope, O Lord GOD: thou art my trust from my youth.”
Like all of us from time to time, David knew what it was to face discouragement. However, he found his answer in the Lord. In Psalm 43:5 he writes, “Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.”
Is your hope in the Lord as you enter 2019? I challenge you to learn to lean upon him to meet every need in your heart and in your life. Allow the circumstances of life to draw you into His presence and into a deeper walk with Him.
Romans 15:13 is a good way to conclude these thoughts: “Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.”
Amen! Grant it, Lord Jesus. Happy New Year.
