When I am praying about my vote the first thing on my mind is the character of the candidate. Is he or she of strong moral character and is the candidate prepared to lead based on a clear understanding of what is right or wrong. If there is a professed Christian running, then I still want to know how they plan to lead. I suppose most democrates and republicans profess to be Christian, but is it just so much talk? You get the point.
Another thing to carefully consider is the party platform. Generally speaking a candidate is not going to balk against the position of its party on the issues, especially a President or those in Congress.
I suggest those of you who are diehard democrats or republicans read your party's platform. It can be an eye opening experience! As I understand the Democratic Platform there is no way I would vote for someone in support of that platform.
Of course, I don't necessarily agree with everything in the Republican platform. However, at this point at least that platform takes the right position on moral issues. With that said, I am not suggesting I am a Republican. I will remain independent, but when it is time to vote I must pray and make a decision. If the candidate appears to possess strong character and is ready to stand up for righteousness, then I may have peace about voting for that individual.
Perhaps for a lot of folks the only thing that matters is money. These days both parties like to give away lots of our money, but for a great many everything just degenerates into class warfare. One party is for the rich and the other is for the working man, or so it is thought. Consequently, they vote for the candidate that seems most likely to help their personal bottom line.
The sad thing about it all is this philosophy is largely to blame for the demise of values in our culture. A people who could careless about protecting human life just so they get their piece of the pie will soon have no pie to dice up! Only righteousness exalts a nation (Prov. 14:34).
It is a shame that any Democrat or any Republican or any Independent who is unwilling to protect the life of unborn children is voted into office. This travesty lies at the feet of the American people who love money more than they fear God. By the way, it would only take one election cycle to forever purge so-called pro-choice politicians from the political landscape of America. If the people simply voted everyone of these rascals out, the message would resound loud and clear: if you are pro-abortion don't even try to run for office!
It is not likely this will ever happen, rather in some ways the problem just seems to get worse. Recently, a batch of Democrats voted against the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act which wouild require medical attention for babies surviving an abortion attempt, but these same people turned around and introduced the Kittens In Traumatic Testing Ends Now Act. The aim here is to stop the killing of kittens used in tests by the US Department of Agriculture.
So there you have it. Finish off babies born live, but by all means stop the killing of kittens in a laboratory used in research. Read the article and I hope it can still stir righteous indignation in your heart. Furthermore, the next time around try to put politicians with such a low view of human life in the unemployment line!
By the way, Senator Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) voted in support of infanticide. He voted against the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. I hope enough Ohioans are repulsed by his actions and send the Senator home the next time around. Something to certainly pray about.
