Discerning the Times - 082124

I begin this week noting the Democratic National Convention is in progress as those involved in this party lay out their vision for the future of America. Clearly, America has two political parties standing in stark contrast one to the other.

Pray for discernment as you decide whom to vote for this November and pray the Lord enables our society to conduct transparent elections free from any kind of fraud.

LIVING IN GOD’S ECONOMY

Various stories in the news these days indicate our economy is creating stress for many Americans. One example is found in this headline which reads: ‘Unretirement’: Massive and Troubling Phenomenon Plaguing Seniors Victimized by Bidenomics. Here is the article from wnd.com:

Inflation ‘has caused seniors to stay in the workforce longer, or come out of retirement to maintain their existing lifestyle or cover growing needs such as medical expenses.’

Joe Biden, out of office as of next January 20 when a new president is inaugurated, then most probably will be a retiree.

He’ll have government-paid protection, multiple government pensions, the millions of dollars he’s made over the years, his primary home and a massive vacation home, a long list of other government perks, all to sustain his “senior” years.

Many American seniors aren’t so privileged.

And many of those seniors have been staying in the workforce longer, or actually are giving up on their retirement and returning to the workforce, because of Biden’s economic policies – Bidenomics.

That would be the agendas Biden has pursued that have given Americans inflation of more than 20% since he took office, that have priced food and fuel up by 20%, 30%, even 40% since Biden’s reign in the Oval Office began.

A study from caring.com reveals the tragic situation facing America’s seniors because of Biden’s tenure:

“1 in 3 working seniors ‘unretired,’ returning to work after retirement.”

“52% of unretired seniors cite inflation as a primary reason they had to return to work.”

“Almost half of working seniors don’t plan on retiring in the next 5 years.”

“14% of retired seniors say they are likely to return to work.”

“1 in 15 seniors fear they could become homeless.”

The survey, with the help of Pollfish, took the opinions of 1,500 Americans ages 62-85.

It found that one-third of respondents now are working either part of the time or fulltime.

The report said, “Inflation is unpleasant for nearly all consumers, but it hits especially hard when you’re on a fixed income. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported in May 2024 that consumer price indices for shelter and food continued to rise. According to the Senior Citizens League, adults who retired in 2000 have lost 36% of their buying power to inflation. Put another way: Retirees need over $500 more a month to maintain the lifestyles and buying power they had when they first retired.”

Faced with drastic lifestyle changes, including possibly selling their homes, the seniors instead have returned to work.

“Retirement plans for many seniors have been impacted by inflation — both due to a desired timeline for retirement and a less clear template for success with their investments amid inflation’s impact. These problems only compound for seniors relying on fixed income,” noted John Farrell, of Caring. “This has caused seniors to stay in the workforce longer, or come out of retirement to maintain their existing lifestyle or cover growing needs such as medical expenses.”

Other reasons cited by working seniors included paying medical debt, other debt, not enough savings, to learn a new skill and even to battle boredom.

Many also reported cutting back on leisure activities (60%), food (47%), and travel (57%) to cope with inflation.

And those seniors back at work report cutting back on the same items, “primarily to maintain their current living situation.”

There are a lot of variables when considering the economic situation faced by seniors, however, one thing is certain. Inflation has changed the lives of many seniors across the country.

Moving forward from here perhaps many seniors face a growing concern about their future. Worry fueled by uncertainty easily slips into the heart. If you are troubled by worry, I advise you to read Matthew 6:24-34 often. Meditate on the assurance the Lord Jesus gives concerning your heavenly Father providing for your needs.

The truth is the only real security anyone has in this world is based on the promises of God. Seek the Lord, cast your cares on him in prayer, and rest in his promises. Remember, Matthew 6:33 provides the way forward regardless of our age.

ISRAEL

As Israel fights a war against an enemy that hides behind women and children, they are doing everything in their power to save civilian lives. The news media simply does not report the truth on this matter. If you are interested in knowing how Israel is limiting civilian death like no other army has while fighting a war check out this report entitled, “40,000 Dead in Gaza: What the Media Won’t Tell You.”

This past week I also came across an intriguing video clip on the work of Israel’s Mossad agency (their equivalent to our CIA). Most believe Israel is responsible for the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh (Hamas leader) in Iran on July 31st just a few weeks ago. This is why no Iranian leader should feel safe as they continue to wage war against Israel. Check out this dramatic piece here.

In one final note on Israel this week here is another fascinating report on the innovation coming out of Israel. In this piece entitled, “Israel’s BOOMING Artificial Intelligence & Drone Industry Trailblazing Modern Era” prepare to be amazed.

PASTOR TO PARENT

As discussed here before, parents these days must figure out how to guide their children in the use of the smart phone. I trust you are paying attention to this problem.

Well, schools are trying to deal with this problem and parents need to be aware and proceed to help resolve these issues. Check out this article entitled, “Why Schools Are Racing to Ban Student Phones.”

CREATION CONNECTION

The global flood detailed in Genesis 6-9 is foundational to a proper understanding of the world. The major geological features that define the surface of the earth today are largely the result of the global flood of Noah’s day, not millions of years of mythical time during which those features supposedly formed.

Here are several articles to strengthen your understanding of this important history recorded in the Word of God:

PERSONAL DISCIPLESHIP
GROWING IN CHRIST

As a pastor who disciples others I have several immediate concerns. First, I want believers to be grounded in sound doctrine. Next, I want to cultivate personal holiness in our lives. Finally, I want to see believers enjoy an abundant inner life as they learn to feed upon Christ.

It is obvious if believers are to develop into strong disciples it takes time. This is exactly why the Lord instructs pastors to “feed the flock of God” (1 Peter 5:2). The result for believers who are faithful to the house of God and are discipled by a godly pastor is growth in Christ. It will happen.

The question that arises is this: are you setting under the ministry of a faithful pastor who is committed to teaching you the Word of God? There are faithful pastors that labor in the Word, but often many who could benefit are simply not at the dinner table! If you are reading this and know you are guilty of neglecting the house of God it is time to do something about it. Be careful. There is a price to pay for neglect and it is not pleasant.

THE LAST WORD

I would love to see you at our upcoming Homecoming service in a few weeks on September 8th. We are pleased to welcome the Gospel Harmony Boys to this special service. You will be encouraged by their music and the gospel will be shared. Following the service, we have food for all and a great opportunity for extended fellowship. Service begins at 10:30am.

As usual, feel welcome to share feedback with me at [email protected] and your prayers are appreciated. May the Lord bless you is my prayer

Let me begin this week with an outrageous story out of China. The Chinese communist government is re-writing the Bible! This is a direct attack upon the faith of the growing church in China. Estimates now place the size of the underground church in China at about 130 million. This means the underground church is now larger in number than the communist party membership.

So, now the communists want to “update” the Bible with socialist values! Get the whole story from CBN News.

LIVING IN GOD’S ECONOMY

News continues to trickle in painting a picture of growing difficulties in our economy. Retail stores continue to close across the nation, fast food outlets continue to struggle, prices on food remain high and ticking upward, and layoffs in various sectors of the economy continue at an alarming rate.

Our nation is large, and the economy is huge. Consequently, among the population there are Americans who are doing fine despite inflation and high interest rates. However, for a growing number of people financial pressure is becoming intolerable.

When discussing personal finances (regardless of the condition of the economy) it is important to understand the root cause of financial problems are often spiritual in nature. Those who walk in God’s wisdom weather bad-times well and even prosper during such times.

One of the main characteristics of spiritually minded believers is contentment. Contentment is the needed hedge against living beyond your means. Consistently living beyond one’s means is the root cause of financial suffering for many Americans. Over-extending financially during the years of a good economy lends itself to disaster when things go south. Discontent is the root cause of many bad decisions that are now causing unnecessary financial pain across the country.

Here are passages of Scripture instructing us about contentment. We all need to apply these words to our lives: Philippians 4:9-13; 1 Timothy 6:6-10; Hebrews 13:5-6.

ISRAEL

As I write these words Israel is bracing for what appears to be a substantial attack from Iran and Hezbollah. In anticipation of a larger regional conflict our military is beefing up its presence in the Middle East even more so.

Time will tell as to the plans Iran has to attack Israel again. However, perhaps Iran is hesitant because Israel has promised an all-out response to Iran should they choose to attack. Iran must know Israel will level considerable damage to their homeland if they choose to attack. I think they are weighing that possibility carefully.

Remember, if Israel hits Iran forcefully, they will aim to take out Iran’s leadership and perhaps Iran’s nuclear program. Our Lord’s prophetic words that there would be “wars and rumors of wars” surrounding Israel are coming to pass right before our eyes.

Soon the world shall enter the days leading to the climax of history when our Lord delivers Israel from annihilation upon his visible, physical return to fight the battle of Armageddon. My friends, we are near the Lord’s return. It is near, even at the door!

Here is another informative update from the Israel Guys to help keep you in touch with what is happening. Take note toward the end of this short video of the sad details of so many attacks upon Israel in Judea and the Jordan river valley. Follow this link to the video.

PASTOR TO PARENT

One of the most basic things parents can do to bless their children is to maintain a faithful church life. Children need to develop a love for the house of God and failure to cultivate that habit at best leads to spiritual weakness in our children and at worst may end up being the contributing factor of children never coming to faith in Christ.

In my years of service as a pastor I have observed a serious mistake parents consistently make. Somehow everything becomes more important than the house of God. Instead of putting the Lord first in the life of their children other activities reign supreme.

Be careful. Devotion to Christ requires we drop things from our busy schedules and simply put the Lord first. The wise parent knows faith only comes from hearing the Word of God. Thus, a faithful church life is an essential part of building a strong commitment to Christ in the heart and life of your children.

There is a powerful passage of Scripture found in Malachi chapter one with an important lesson for all of us. Read Malachi 1:6-13. Take note of how the Lord viewed Israel giving him their leftovers. May I say, the Lord does not want our leftovers. He wants our first and our best. Be careful. Do not give the Lord your leftovers when it comes to his house. Nothing good comes of that.

CREATION CONNECTION

One of the basic truths set forth in Genesis chapter one is the concept of created kinds (Genesis 1:21, 24, 25). It is obvious from Scripture that one “kind” cannot evolve into another “kind.”

Yet, this is exactly what the mythical idea of evolution proposes. Evolutionists believe that simpler forms of life evolved over millions of years into more complex forms of life. For example, the idea that man evolved from monkeys.

Such thinking is ludicrous! It is not possible for one “kind” to change form into another “kind.” Dogs are dogs. Cats are cats, etc. According to the Genesis record God obviously never used evolution to do anything. He called the various “kinds” into existence by the power of his word.

PERSONAL DISCIPLESHIP
GROWING IN CHRIST

As you grow in Christ the call of your Lord to all out discipleship deepens. As followers of Christ, we are to spend our lives reaching others with the gospel. This commitment lies at the heart of discipleship.

Our Lord was a worker in the harvest. Likewise, we should be workers in the effort to win souls for Christ. Listen to these words from Matthew chapter nine:

“And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.”

The workers are few. Disciples of the Lord Jesus must embrace his compassion for the lost. It is compassion for a lost world that compels us to labor in the harvest. Are you a worker for the Lord? Let the Holy Spirit thrust you into the harvest. There is work to be done and you are needed!

Let me begin this week with a personal invitation for you to come and be a part of a special evening of gospel music this Sunday evening at our CBM sanctuary/studio beginning at 6pm. We are pleased to welcome Sister Tammy Jones Robinette for a wonderful evening of gospel music and fellowship. That’s this Sunday, August 11, at 6pm.

LIVING IN GOD’S ECONOMY

With every passing day it seems I hear more bad news about the economy. I suspect you see the same headlines. It appears we may face severe fallout from unwise decisions made across the economy by banks, corporations, and millions of individuals. The balance of 2024 and most of 2025 does not bode well for the general economy.

However, it is reassuring to understand our personal needs are met by our heavenly Father (Cf. Matthew 6:19-34). Furthermore, the spiritual minded believer rests in the arms of contentment (Cf. 1 Timothy 6:6-8). Quite frankly, much of the stress in the U.S. economy is the result of too many people attempting to live beyond their means.

With that said, we all live in the same nation and whether we are believers or unbelievers none can escape the realities that touch us all. After all, inflation does not care what your spiritual state is. It simply demands we all pay more for the things we need.

In an economy that might go from bad to worse what are we to do? Where is the believer to look for hope? There are several things to say about this, but the short answer is to remain faithful to God. Set your mind on obedience to God. Remember, your prosperity (experiencing a consistent supply that meets your needs and enables you to abound to good works—2 Corinthians 9:6-8) is in the hands of God.

There is a very edifying account of God’s faithfulness recorded for us in Genesis chapter twenty-six. Read verses one through six and then connect verse twelve to these verses. Take note that Isaac sowed during a time of famine and reaped the same year a hundredfold!

I call attention to this passage to assure you of God’s faithfulness even in times of famine. Isaac obeyed God and stayed where the Lord put him. He trusted God instead of heading for Egypt. Naturally speaking it seemed wise to leave the place of famine and find a place of provision with less difficulties to face. In this case the Lord did not want Isaac to move. He promised the land to Isaac as he did to Abraham. Thus, the Lord told Isaac in essence obey me and I will be with you.

Verse twelve gives us the result of Isaac’s obedience. He sowed and with the Lord’s favor reaped a hundredfold in the same year! Obviously, our circumstances are different from those facing Isaac. However, when we face our day of economic distress what are we to do? Shall we abandon everything God has taught us in his word, or shall we continue to obey God and trust him to provide for us even in times of difficulty?

Living in God’s economy does not mean we are immune from all the fallout thrust our direction by an unwise world. But it does mean we can expect God’s favor right in the middle of it all! I trust you see the point.

So, what if the stock market crashes, excessive debt causes ripples of famine across our land, and WWIII breaks out? Will the Lord be with his people? Will he prove faithful to those who obey him? Will he meet our needs? Will he enable us to abound to every good work? Yes! He will prove faithful!

AMERICANISM

I came across an interesting documentary on America’s Muslim city. You need to see this. This piece was created after the barbaric invasion of Israel on October 7, 2023. It is hard for freedom loving Americans to watch what is going on in our nation. In that regard, the spread of Islam in America should be at the top of the list. The religion of Islam cannot support a free America.

Here is a summary of what is in this documentary: What happens when Muslims take over an American city? Pro-Hamas parades, animal sacrifice, burqas, a ban on LGBT flags, Arabic signs, male and female entrances to Mosques, restrictions on music lessons in schools, the call to prayer blasting over loudspeakers; Strolling the streets of Hamtramck, Michigan, one can hardly recognize that this was once a mighty American industrial centre. A new GB News documentary with US Correspondent Steven Edginton goes to America's only Muslim city to investigate how Islam has changed the town.

The tiny city is known as ‘the world in two square miles’ due to its hugely diverse population. Bosnians, Poles, Bangladeshis, African Americans, French, Germans, and Yemenis are among the many nationalities who populate or once populated the town.

Until a few decades ago Hamtramck was dominated by Poles; one resident told us it was typical to solely speak Polish, read local Polish newspapers, go to Polish banks and go to one of three Polish churches. Just one such church remains now. A flurry of Mosques have taken their place.

Conservative Yemeni Muslims have flooded into Hamtramck in recent years. In 2021 Hamtramck made history when it became the first American city to elect a full Muslim council and mayor. After 100 years of continuous Polish mayors and politicians, not one remains in local government.

Here is the link to the documentary entitled, “We Confronted Zealous Imams in America’s Muslim City.”

ISRAEL

Israel continues to face the threat of a heavy, regional war. The nation is persecuted relentlessly by many in the world (in fact this condition is part of the Lord’s discipline of his people with the time of Jacob’s greatest trouble yet to come). Yet, through it all (even with Israel in a state of national unbelief in her Messiah) the Lord is gracious. He has allowed Israel to be a blessing to the Mideast in numerous ways since her rebirth as a nation in 1948.

Until recently I did not know how Israel’s water surplus is transforming the Middle East. Perhaps you were aware of this. I simply did not know about this extraordinary story. Here is a report from TBN Israel entitled, “How Israel’s Water Surplus is Transforming the Mideast.” Wow! What a blessing.

PASTOR TO PARENT

Good news for Ohio parents! Here is a news release from CCV of Ohio:

COLUMBUS–Earlier today (Tuesday, August 6th) Franklin County Court of Common Pleas Judge Michael J. Holbrook issued a ruling in favor of the Saving Adolescents From Experimentation (SAFE) Act and Save Women's Sports Act, known as House Bill 68 (HB68). After months of being blocked, the bill is now in effect.

The following statement is from Center for Christian Virtue President Aaron Baer:

"Today, Ohio is a safer state for women and children. The ACLU's lawsuit has been exposed as absurd and nonsensical, and now our girls won't be forced to compete against boys in athletics, and children's hospitals can no longer perform dangerous and sterilizing procedures on kids.

Attorney General Dave Yost has been a strong advocate for the law and Ohio children, and because of his office's expertise and excellence, our kids have been protected."

You can watch the behind-the-scenes story of passing HB68 in a documentary video that debuted at our 2024 Cincinnati Celebration Gala with Riley Gaines and Chloe Cole. The video is available to watch on YouTube.

Praise the Lord! For now, girl sports in Ohio are protected. As well, all our young people are protected from dangerous hospital procedures related to transgender confusion. Keep praying for our state representatives. They are working hard to push back the far left wokeness threatening our families. Thankfully, our people are standing with them and good is being done.

CREATION CONNECTION

One of the great stumbling blocks to an acceptance of the Biblical doctrine of special creation is the pagan concepts of “millions of years” and “billions of years,” or what is sometimes referred to as “deep time.”

Most are quite uninformed on this subject and quickly accept the concept as a scientifically proved truth. Not so!

The concept of “deep time” is an essential element of the “faith” system of naturalism (the belief that the universe, planet earth, mankind, etc. can be explained strictly by natural processes; naturalism attempts to explain everything without God; those who embrace this belief system reject the supernatural altogether).

Thus, of necessity long periods of time must be a part of their myth to grant evolution, driven by impersonal chance, opportunity to work its miracles (I apologize to our secular friends as they are probably offended by the word miracle since it has a hint of supernaturalism in it!).

And how do they conclude the universe and the earth are so old? Well, they use various dating methods on existing materials to suggest such things are “millions of years” old. However, there is a huge problem here. ALL THE DATING METHODS ARE FULL OF ASSUMPTIONS! Thus, all the dates generated by these methods are nothing more than bad, educated guesses. And of course, they can manipulate those dates as needed to accommodate the mythical idea of evolution over time.

Here are some important articles to help you understand this most serious problem with the secular worldview. No Christian should accept the faulty “science” that leaves the door of deep time open to unbelievers. Without the concept of deep time there is no possibility of evolution. Thus, the war over the concept.

PERSONAL DISCIPLESHIP
GROWING IN CHRIST

In short order every believer should understand themselves to be disciples of Jesus. As followers of Christ, we learn to observe all things the Lord has commanded us (Matthew 28:20). In essence personal discipleship is learning to obey our Lord. He is our Savior, and we follow him. Thus, we are to observe all he has commanded as we learn to walk in his Spirit.

Jesus says, “If you abide in my word, you are my disciples indeed” (John 8:31). Discipleship is the process of learning the Master’s doctrine and practice from his word. The goal of discipleship is to shape the learner in such a way he becomes like his Master.

Thus, to be a mature disciple one must know his Bible and obey it. Are you pursuing faithful discipleship? Be careful. It is easy to neglect serving Christ. Our Lord is calling us to deny self and take up the cross and follow him. A good question to ask from time to time is this: “What kind of disciple am I?”

I encourage you to serve the Lord. Give yourself to the cause of Christ. Dying to self and living to Christ gives life its greatest meaning and produces the greatest sense of satisfaction one can know. As Jesus said, “whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.” Amen.

Discerning the Times - 073124

Let me begin this week with an issue that will be with us the rest of our lives. Fallout from the ill-advised covid vaccination campaign of a few years ago persists through-out our society.

One of the interesting stories remaining behind the scenes is that of embalmers. What they have discovered since late spring of 2021 following the widespread distribution of the covid vaccine is alarming. Reasonable investigation should apply to this situation in the interest of explaining why the phenomenon they face exists.

Here is the link to a video entitled, Why Are Embalmers Observations Being Ignored?

LIVING IN GOD’S ECONOMY

I am sure you pay attention to the economy, especially at the grocery store. It is obvious the current economic climate is difficult for many Americans. Inflation and higher interest rates are taking a steady toll on the economy. Daily we read about stores closing and companies cutting jobs. Furthermore, we read about stress occurring as millions are not paying their bills.

There are millions of moving parts in the economy of any nation as individuals make financial decisions and governments set various policies affecting us all. So how is one to prosper? How is one to have their needs met?

It is interesting to note the Lord never insinuates in Scripture that his promises are dependent on the condition of a nation’s economy. In other words, we can experience God’s faithfulness regardless of what is happening around us.

The starting place for believers to experience God’s faithfulness is found in Matthew chapter six. I encourage you to read Matthew 6:19-34. Take to heart verse thirty-three. Examine your life and determine where you are neglecting to put the Lord first.

Obey Matthew 6:33. Putting the Lord first opens the door to his faithfulness. He promises to add the things we have need of as we seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness. While none of us can be sure of what our economy may look like tomorrow, we can rest in God’s faithfulness as we obey him. He knows we have basic needs and he promises to add the things we have need of as we seek him. Amen!

ISRAEL

David Reagan is an author, speaker, and founder of Lion and Lamb Ministries. Perhaps you know of him. He is a dear brother in the Lord and I think you will enjoy a recent article he wrote and which appeared in the Harbinger’s Daily.  The article is entitled, The Most Important Prophetic Sign Of All Has Bloomed Right Before Our Eyes.

Of course, the rebirth of the nation of Israel in 1948 is that sign. Since that time millions of Jews have returned to their ancient homeland. Without question, their existence is under constant attack. This past Saturday I became aware of another missile attack on Israel from Hezbollah in Lebanon. Initial reports have ten people dead with youth playing soccer among them and another 20 injured. Israel is under unbelievable stress as enemies torment them from every direction.

Yet through all the struggle the fact remains she is in a national posture conducive to the fulfillment of the 70th week of Daniel’s famous prophecy. Indeed, Israel is God’s super sign that the coming of Christ for his church is near, even at the door! Read David Reagan’s article here and strengthen your understanding of Israel’s history and future.

And be ye also ready. For in such an hour as you think not the Son of man comes!

PASTOR TO PARENT

A deep spiritual deception threatens you and your family. I am referring to the deception of the New Age movement. The tenacles of this deception meander through-out music, entertainment, the internet, and sadly into our churches.

This is a broad subject and what I’m sharing today can only serve as a reminder to protect your family and church from the insidious encroachment of this evil. Of course, your children are the chief prize Satan seeks to allure into his web of deception. Consequently, we need to watch and be spiritually alert. We need to identify and expose his deception wherever it occurs.

I think the testimony and insight of a dear lady named Doreen Virtue, whom the Lord delivered from a paganized form of Christianity, can help instruct us all on this matter. Here is a link to a video entitled, 4 New Age Lies that are Deceiving Christians and Infiltrating the Church.

One of the lessons I hope you glean from this video is the fact we cannot “Christianize” pagan practices including Yoga.

CREATION CONNECTION

A fundamental teaching from Genesis 1:1-2:1 is the declaration of Scripture that God created the universe, an inhabitable planet earth, mankind in his image, and the fullness of life on planet earth in six normal twenty-four-hour days. He rested on the seventh day which also consisted of a normal day/night cycle of twenty-four hours.

Sadly, the compromising (or perhaps simply confused) church refuses to accept the obvious meaning of the Hebrew language in Genesis 1:1-2:1. The Hebrew word for day and the language of the text clearly reveals a six-day creation week with a day of rest on the seventh day.

Of course, once we eliminate the “Gap Theory” compromise and accept the simple, straight-forward meaning of the word day in Genesis 1:1-2:1 we are left with a total world history of less than 10,000 years as revealed by the Holy Spirit in the pages of his inspired word.

Those of us who accept the authority of Scripture on this matter are often branded as “Young Earth Creationists.” So be it, however, I prefer if you must call me anything please refer to this preacher as a “Biblical Creationist.” I start with God’s word, not man’s word and I refuse to deny the clear meaning of Genesis 1-11.

Regarding a recent creation (although nearly 6000 years is a long time) I stand on the revelation of Holy Scripture and reject without reservation the pagan concept of “millions of years.”  Deep time is the savior of intellectual evolutionary babble and why followers of the Lord Jesus Christ (our Creator/Redeemer) should leave that door open for them by abandoning the clear teaching of Scripture is puzzling to me.

Here are several links to excellent articles to help you understand the meaning of the word “day” as it is used in the creation week detailed in Genesis 1:1-2:1. Study them carefully:

PERSONAL DISCIPLESHIP
GROWING IN CHRIST

Last week I called attention to our Lord’s insistence that we must deny self to be his disciple. Certainly, confessing Christ as personal savior in some measure always includes denying self.

An example will get this point across. In John 9 we have the story of a man born blind. Our Lord healed the man, and the miracle stirred a great controversy among the Jews. They sought to deny the miracle since it obviously served to confirm Jesus’ claim to be the Messiah.

A very interesting part of this incident in our Lord’s public ministry is the reaction of this man’s parents who refused to have anything to do with the miracle because they feared the Jewish leaders. They knew if they confessed Jesus as the Christ, then they would be put out of the synagogue (John 9:22).

Here is the point: if we would be a disciple of Christ, then we must deny our self and take up our cross at the point of decision (the cross in part speaks of the rejection of men and of the world).

Have you counted the cost of following Christ? Is he more precious to you than the approval of family or of other men? The words of the hymn Jesus, I My Cross Have Taken expresses thoughts on this great truth:

Jesus, I my cross have taken,
All to leave and follow Thee;
Destitute, despised, forsaken,
Thou, from hence, my all shalt be.
Perish every fond ambition,
All I’ve sought, and hoped, and known;
Yet how rich is my condition,
God and Christ are still my own!

Let the world despise and leave me,
They have left my Savior, too;
Human hearts and looks deceive me;
Thou art not, like man, untrue;
And, while Thou shalt smile upon me,
God of wisdom, love, and might,
Foes may hate, and friends disown me;
Show Thy face, and all is bright.

Yes, we have denied our self, and we take up the cross to follow the great lover of our soul!

THE DANGER OF FALSE SPIRITUALITY

Deception abounds in our world. The reality of deception has persisted since Satan deceived Eve in the Garden of Eden.

One serious area of deception in our day is the recording of so many Near Death Experiences. The testimonies of those who encountered a near death experience (NDE) often insinuate there is nothing to fear about death. Furthermore, non-Christians testify of a beautiful light that produced peace and joy they never knew in this life.

There is deception in these experiences as the Bible does not teach death is a wonderful experience for everyone. Those who know the Lord go to be with him at the moment of death. However, those who die without Christ do NOT see a glorious light. Rather, like the lost rich man described by Jesus in Luke 16, they lift their eyes in hell.

Recently two video clips crossed my path about near-death experiences. I am providing links to these clips below and invite you to listen with a discerning ear. If you know your Bible, then you will see the problem with the dangerous teaching set forth by those deceived by these experiences. Remember, Satan transforms himself into an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14). Satan works diligently to blind the eyes of a lost world to the need for the Savior. Beware of the world of NDE.

HE Died and Came back | Jesus Revealed Shocking truth to him | NDE | Near death experience (youtube.com)
Why I don't fear death (and you shouldn't either) (youtube.com)
Certainly, those who know the Lord Jesus Christ need not fear death. However, a lost world has every reason to be afraid of death. The answer is not to console those headed for a lost eternity. Rather, the answer is to teach everyone to die with their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

ISRAEL

The Jewish News Syndicate provides the world with a window into the thinking of the Jewish people. You might want to pay attention to news provided from JNS. Truth about what is happening in Israel is not clearly communicated by our news media.

With that said, I found this podcast from Jonathan Tobin of JNS interesting. His take on J. D. Vance as Vice-President is timely and I think you will enjoy it.

On another front, did you know that Hamas is about to get one hundred million dollars from America? I just shake my head in disbelief. How can we provide money to the enemies of Israel bent on the destruction of the Jewish state and simultaneously claim to be pro-Israel?! Of course, this type of confusing behavior on the part of our government is not exactly new. The Israel Guys can bring us up to date on this latest unexplainable act coming out of Washington D.C.  Here is the link.

PASTOR TO PARENT

Will your children become evolutionists? Will your children become Biblical creationists? I certainly hope your children develop a Biblical worldview. However, if they do develop strong convictions rooted in the Bible it will be no accident. YOU MUST WORK AT IT CONSISTENTLY AND YOU MUST EQUIP THEM TO WITHSTAND THE HEAVY INFLUENCE OF UNBELIEF PERMEATING OUR WORLD.

Here is an article containing recent polling about origins. It is interesting. Thankfully, many do believe the Biblical record. However, a growing number of Americans are embracing evolution. Check out the article below.

Gallup Poll: Belief in Creationism at All-time Low
By Brian Freeman - Newsmax

The percentage of Americans who believe God created humans in their present form within the past 10,000 years is the lowest in the past four decades, while the share who do not believe God had any role in human evolution is the highest recorded, according to a Gallup poll released Monday.

The polling agency started asking views related to the issue in 1982.

Other results from the survey include:

The largest segment of Americans (37%) remain creationist purists, despite the all-time recorded low, saying God created humans in their present form within the past 10,000 years.

The scientific theory of evolution, that humans evolved from less advanced forms of life over millions of years without God's involvement, is accepted by 24% of U.S. adults, an all-time high.

Straddling both theories are 34% of Americans, who say humans evolved, but with God's guidance.

Belief in creationism and God-guided evolution hit their peaks of 47% and 40%, respectively, in 1999 and have since trended downward. Support for evolution without divine intervention has nearly tripled since the same year.

Views on human origins continue to vary significantly, depending on people's religious identification, how often they attend church, their political ideology, and their education level.

Majorities of U.S. adults who attend religious services at least weekly identify as politically conservative, are Protestant, and believe that God created human beings in their present form. Half of those who attend religious services nearly weekly or monthly also believe in creationism.

A majority of those who say they do not affiliate with any religion think humans evolved over millions of years without any involvement from God, as do pluralities of those who attend religious services less than monthly and political liberals.
Pluralities of Catholics and college graduates believe in evolution over millions of years that was guided by God.

You can draw your own conclusions about this poll. My aim in sharing it is simple. I want to alert parents to the very real influence of evolutionary thinking running rampant throughout our society. Make sure your children learn the Biblical doctrine of creation. It is the foundation of our faith.

Also, make sure you provide answers to the questions that arise in their thinking. It is natural to ask questions and it is for sure they will encounter attacks on the Biblical doctrine of creation. They will need answers. Providing those answers equips them with an apologetic for their faith. See the weekly “Creation Connection” for help with this matter.

CREATION CONNECTION

One of the errors propagated in the church since the secular world began promoting the idea of millions of years of earth history in the 1800s is the misguided concept
of a “gap” of time between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2. This seemed to be a convenient way for Bible teachers to accommodate the supposed “scientific” idea of millions of years of earth history coming out of the scientific community at that time.

However, there is no justification for this compromise with a pseudo-scientific idea we know has no support from real data collected from the scientific method. We could try to excuse the compromise of Christian leaders in the 1800s and the early 20th century, but they should have known better.

We should never allow the words of men to sit in judgment on the Word of God. Since the Bible nowhere teaches the pagan concept of millions of years of death and dying before Adam’s sin, the church should have silenced such babble from the scientific community with a clear stand on the Word of God. Tragically, in some ways the church has never recovered from those days of compromise.

Here is a link to an article that gets you started with sound Biblical teaching on the subject. This article also links you to four more great articles to help strengthen your understanding of this matter.

PERSONAL DISCIPLESHIP
GROWING IN CHRIST

Every believer grows in Christ as he or she feeds upon the Word of God (1 Peter 2:2). Growth in Christ results in a deeper assurance of salvation and a greater grasp of the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ. Also, as we grow in Christ we learn to walk in the Spirit. We put off the old man with his deeds and put on the new man who is created after the image of Christ. Said another way, we become more like Christ as we walk in his Spirit.

With that said, I want to bring your attention to a powerful teaching of our Lord found in the gospels. Jesus clearly says we must deny self if we are to be his disciple. In fact, he says in Luke 14, “And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.”

I encourage you to read Luke 14:25-35. In this teaching Jesus insists that one must bear his cross or he cannot be his disciple. Listen carefully. In context Jesus is saying you must love him more than whatever it is keeping you from following him. Christ says if loyalty to family keeps you from following him, then you must bear the cross of rejection and follow no matter the cost.

Denying self to follow Christ begins at the point of conversion. However, it does not stop there. As we grow in Christ, we recognize we must give up life as we would live it and lose our life for Christ. The work of the Spirit in our life stands in stark contrast to the spirit of the world and the works of the flesh. The Holy Spirit leads us to deny self and to live for Christ. Thus, we must daily deny self (Luke 9:23).

Don’t be surprised when you feel a constant tug within against the things of Christ. Self is synonymous with the fallen nature and must be denied daily!
