Consider the following reasons for both Christian Homeschooling and the private K-12 Christian School. We should pursue Christian education:
Because Proverbs 1:7 states unequivocally that “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.”
*It is not acceptable for the Christian community to ignore the Lord with no prayer and no acknowledgment of him in the daily educational experience of their children. Nor is it acceptable for the Christian community to accommodate the idolatry of multiculturalism. There is only one true living God and only one way to be reconciled to him.
Because every Christian parent is commanded by God to diligently teach their children the Scripture. Biblical literacy among the youth of Christian families should be our first priority (Deut. 6:6-9).
I am not going to apologize for training you to THINK this way. An education that does not include the goal of Biblical literacy is horribly deficient for the Christian community.
Because Pastors are commanded to “feed the flock of God” and disciple believers. This most certainly includes our youth in their formative years.
*The absence of a Christian school experience means that we lost the opportunity to use the 7 hour a day, 180 days a year, 13 year educational experience to build disciples!
Consider the following: (13 years x 52 weeks x hours of instruction)
Church hours (13x52x3): 2028. (Assuming a child attends 3 times per week)
Home hours (13x52x7): 4732. (The seven here represents one hour/day of home instruction.)
School (13x180x7): 16,380. (13 years x 180 days x 7 hours per day) We lost these hours to secular education if the Christian school is ignored.
Because a K thru 12 private Christian school is committed to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
*State education will never acknowledge the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
Because Christian parents should avoid an uneven yoke with unbelievers who do not share the same educational priorities (2 Cor. 6:14-18).
The Christian community must come to grips with the fact that the world is not going to accept our priority to honor God, Christ, and his Word. Nor are they going to assist us with the development of disciples of Christ. Nor are they going to cooperate on the development of wholesome curriculum aimed at the formation of a Biblical worldview in the minds of our children. Nor are they going to hold teachers to a godly standard that requires godly character in order to stay in the class room.
Because the goal of Christian parents and Pastors should be to prepare their children to pursue the cause of Christ (Matt. 28:19-20).
Because a foundational knowledge of Scripture is essential to leading a truly prosperous life (Psalm 1).
*State education is not preparing our children for a prosperous life. Learning math and language art skills is a wonderful thing, but these raw skills alone do not prepare students for a prosperous life—only a knowledge of the Lord and his will can do that.
Because the K thru 12 educational experience of children from Christian homes should assist parents with the training of their children in the Christian faith (Colossians 2:8).
*I’m speaking as a Pastor: why should any Christian parent miss the opportunity to train their children in a thorough knowledge of the Christian faith?
Because the pursuit of godliness and righteousness is the aim of education from a Biblical perspective (Cf. Proverbs 2:1-14; Titus 2:12).
*We cannot even hang the Ten Commandments on the walls of our schools, much less teach them!
Because the preservation of our constitutional republic depends upon future generations of Americans possessing a Biblical worldview (Cf. Jer. 3:21; Ezek. 22:12; 23:35; Hosea 4:6)
As I discuss this matter, I really want to stay positive and simply talk about the great advantages we can create for our children as we invest in private, Christian education. And so I want to end on that note. I challenge you to maintain and develop into full maturity a strong private, Christian school that offers our children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren the wonderful advantage of a Christ centered K-12 experience.
