This story illustrates the attack upon freedom of conscience occurring in America today. It also illustrates the invasion of confusion occurring in our schools and elsewhere in our culture.
I am alarmed that so many Christians are NOT alarmed at what is happening. It's not like this started yesterday. The moral free-fall of our nation which is certainly manifesting in the non-Christian schools of the country (public system, etc.) is cause enough for parents to withdraw their children from those schools and seek a setting where they can concentrate on raising godly children.
One thing is for sure. If the Christian community is unwilling to seek righteousness (which means we actually live out our faith by confessing Christ and obeying his word), then we are going to LOSE our religious freedom.
If and when that day comes, it will not be the wicked who takes away our freedom. Rather, it will be the Lord who does so.
That's right, you did not miss read what I just said. Somehow Christians in our nation are now living as though obedience to Christ is optional. In the household of faith we will discover chastening comes when God's people sink into such a worldly state of mind obedience to Christ crimps their style, if you please.
God looks at our hearts. Attitudes prevalent in the heart that amount to ignoring the lead of the Holy Spirit will not always be ignored by the Lord. My advice to Christians everywhere is to OBEY Matthew 6:33!! If seeking him first means a change of lifestyle do it anyway. That is the point! We are called to righteousness and we are called to make his priorities our priorities.
Jesus our Lord (not our buddy, our blessing machine that only exists to make us happy) calls
us to obedience. Much of what is happening in America today is the direct result of professed Christians refusing to separate from the world, refusing to live obedient lives, and in a word simply losing salt in themselves.
Lack of conviction in the visible church has caught up with our culture. The slide toward anarchy is more real than we think. Trust me, if we lose the right to freedom of conscience for the Christian community it will mean persecution and the day of comfort for us will be gone.
The right thing to do is actually stand up for what is right and we must do it while we have the freedom to do so. Yes, even now it will cost us something. But let's live for Christ if we are actually his!
A good place to start a new day of obedience to Christ is the discipleship of our precious children. Separate them unto godly education on every front. Seek a godly seed not tossed to and fro with the unbelief and growing wickedness of the world.
May the Lord help us discern the seriousness of the day in which we live is my prayer.
Please read this story carefully. Are we ready to take our stand?
